PROJECT: blue cat illustration / website navigation

For the first version of design asylum, I wanted to use an illustrated navigation scheme. I had many ideas, but I liked this one the best because the navigation flowed naturally out of the illustration. The coffee cup was animated to show a curl of steam and each navgation choice changed color on rollover.

For me, looking at online portfolios is akin to browsing books -- the better the book, the more time I invest, especially if the site has a strong style/personality. At the time, I was looking to differentiate my portfolio -- I was trying to avoid to slick or Flash overkill -- and for better or worse :) I think I succeeded.
